About Jennifer Cocklin

Jennifer Cocklin, Piano and Voice Teacher

Jennifer grew up with music. In elementary school, she began playing the violin and piano, and joined the Riverside Academy of Music's Performing and Chamber Choirs. Through middle and high school, Jennifer was involved in the school orchestras and choirs, including vocal jazz, and continued with her private piano lessons. Her college experience took her through Lorain County Community College, Baldwin Wallace College Conservatory of Music, and Cleveland State University where she graduated with a Bachelor's of Music Education with a vocal emphasis. During college, Jennifer performed with the school choirs, the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, and had a passion for performing in the Opera Theater. She also performed voice and piano at the Universitaire de Savoie in France.

After graduating, Jennifer moved from the Cleveland area and accepted a position in Las Vegas as a music teacher serving pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students. She taught there for eight years and also directed a fourth and fifth grade Honor Choir, with anywhere between 20 and 130 students. Jennifer directed multiple programs and musicals during her time there. As well as being a classroom music teacher, Jennifer has taught private piano and voice lessons for over twenty years, her students ranging in age from 2 to 78.

As well as sharing her love of music, Jennifer is also passionate about making music and instruments accessible to people of all abilities. She presented "Making Music" at the 2013 Annual Arthrogryposis Conference, a session about adapting and modifying musical instruments to each person's specific physical needs. Some of the instruments Jennifer presented modifications for are guitar, violin, recorder, and some percussion mallets. Jennifer is always open to exploring ways to make any instrument for any ability work!
